Cosmic Coffee
Cosmic Coffee is a brand new coffee roaster and cafe in the heart of Edmonton looking to offer its patrons a coffee drinking experience that is out of this world. They are dedicated to crafting exceptional coffee and take pride in sourcing only the highest quality beans. Every batch created by Cosmic Coffee is carefully roasted to perfection to bring out the unique flavours and aromas of each origin. This company was in need of a visual identity system that would match the magic and uniqueness of their coffee, highlighting the “out of world experience”. Overall, the vibe of the company is hand crafted, playful, and unique. A variety of media, merchandise, and branded materials were created to engage with their patrons.

A Genuine, Handcrafted Logo
The primary logo for Cosmic Coffee is handcrafted with a handwritten typeface and a hand drawn planet. This is to reflect the uniqueness, and handcrafted-ness of the coffee roasted by Cosmic Coffee while keeping a playful and fun look and feel.
An Out of this World Identity
The visual identity of Cosmic Coffee is based on the Milky Way with fun shapes and stars to form the galaxy, which also highlights the different tasting notes of their coffee. The colours chosen for this brand are based on the colours found throughout images of the solar system. The colours and brand pattern were designed to be flexible and work for a variety of materials that the company may need.
A Unique Type
Cosmic Sans was created as the title font for Cosmic Coffee, giving a handcrafted, playful feel to the brand. Avenir Next Condensed was chosen to contrast Cosmic Coffee for headlines, body text, subtitles and footers as it is easily legible.
Reflection
Designing the visual identity of Cosmic Coffee has helped me to better utilize a system that will carry through a variety of materials that is recognizable. I also had quite a lot of fun designing the typeface for this brand, as well as the brand patterning and merchandise.
